Ian has a distinguished career in the Construction Industry. Starting as an apprentice Quantity Surveyor in Edinburgh, he became a Chartered Surveyor in 1986. He then transitioned to contracting, working at Hall and Tawse, eventually becoming Regional Surveyor during their various ownership changes. 

In 2008, Ian joined the Scottish Building Federation (SBF) as Technical & Commercial Manager, becoming Commercial Director in 2014. He's been actively involved in drafting and updating standard contract forms through SBF's work with the Contractors Legal Group and Joint Contracts Tribunal. Ian oversees contractual and commercial matters, including dispute resolution and member company concerns. 

Furthermore, he contributes to the Construction Quality Improvement Collaborative, focusing on enhancing construction practices for better performance. Ian's career showcases expertise in construction, from technical aspects to leadership in professional associations, reflecting his dedication to the industry.
